looking at a green 93 400SEL with A/C & radio problem

Hi,

I'm close to San Jose, CA, 95035 and looking to buy a green 1993 400 SEL with 113000 miles

I've been searching and reading threads on this forum.

The A/C does not work (no wind, no fan from the dash). The mechanic who helped me checked the car took a look at the hoses valve and said that there was no more freon in the system. That means that I'm looking at the complete 22-hour evaporator job, right? The evaporator also prevents the fans from working?

The car seems to have almost no options (no CD changer, no air leveling rear suspension). Just a sunroof which does not work and looks slanted when closed.

The radio says "WAIT", not sure if I will have the code after purchasing.
What kind of aftermarket units could I use to replace that one? (one that supports a bluetooth cell phone and an iPod would be nice).

The parking brake release handle is broken.

The owner wants $7000 for the car, is that a fair price given the mileage and the A/C problems? Should I pass and keep looking?
Since the evaporator will mostly fail at around 100K miles for those cars, shouldn't I bite the bullet and have it fixed for the rest of the life of that car?

Oh, and do you have any recommendation on shops on East Bay / Fremont / San Jose ?

Thanks for your advices.

not worth 7000....you can get a 1995,1996 or maybe a 1997 (maybe) for 7000 and no problems other than normal cosmetic...

2011 E350 Bluetec, 1996 S320 & 2006 E320 CDI Sold to my son & 2017 GMC 2500 Diesel Pick up
As mentioned it’s not worth that price. As a matter of fact I think if you had an estimate done on just the repairs you know of it would convince you to keep looking. Be patient, it wouldn’t take long to find a better deal and not much longer to find that awesome deal. They are out there in quite good condition. I would rather have to have one shipped across the country if needed. A half hour on the internet, auto trader, ebay and the like and you will see what I mean.
Good Luck in your search

Price seems a little high based on the condition that you are reporting. Don't forget Craig's List... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/429224725.html
