How Many Miles?

Tune ups are very general in nature. However, these items most likely need to be changed by 100k...fuel filter, serpentine belt, maybe belt tensioner (often overlooked), plugs, ignition wires for sure, shocks for sure, upper & lower control arms for sure (lower bushings only can be replaced), check ball joints for sure, steering damper for sure, sway bar links for sure, sway bar bushings for sure, Idler arm replacement kit for sure, motor mounts (for sure), alignment, check flex disc, change all fluids, replace wheel bearings if necessary.

Note: Despite what people may tell you, these cars require a lot of maintenance. These are heavy cars, when your car is stopped at a light and you can feel or tell the car is on, you need new motor mounts. With new motor mounts installed properly you will have to gauge the rpm's to tell if the car is on.

i have to dissagree with your comment.
i own both an s600, and an s320. and also a clk55. the 600 has been better to me 'suprise' maintanence-wise when put up against the other two cars. maintain and treat the 600 well, and it will treat you well. remember, the vehicle was designed and built by scientists. its a highly calculated car.

At that amound of KM's you can get by with just an exstensive fluid change, diff, oil, coolant, SLS/ADS fluid, regardless of what anyone at MB says that gearbox is not lifetime sealed and should be done ever 60,000km's or around 34-40,000 miles too, you might as well also do the brake fluid just so all the fluids have been done and you know from there on in where everything is at. Check the belt that drives all the AC and whatnot of cracks if the car has been parked for a long time.

The W140 are high maintenance cars, been working on them since 1992 at Barrier Mercedes Dealership. If a car has not had much attention does not mean it does not need attention.

You are the one who commented "you fried you computer"? you need an inde shop, or dealer to check it out for you. Of course it was the fuse as I explained. There are those who teach and those who preach.

I don't think he ever disputed that the W140 requires alot of maintenance but that the S600 is not really significantly more unreliable than any other W140, ti costs more in terms of man hours to work around that huge V12 though and somethings like filters, ETA etc there are two of.

Yes. that was exactly what i was saying.
teach or preach; i never said it doesnt take a lot to maintain the car. i said its more reliable than the others, since its fair to say since i have 3 vehicles, and have experience with all of them obviously, i would know the most reliable one and the least. the least reliable and highest cost per mile to operate car is the CLK55 i have noticed.. and the least is the s600, when thinking maintanence cost..not gas (we all know the 600 guzzles the most).

so like i said before. treat the car well and it will treat you well. take it in for required servicing and it will serve you a long time. i cant say the same thing about a ford, chevy or even a honda, the most raved and sought-out car when comes to reliability...
open the door of your 600 (1999). feel the weight and smoothness of it. open the door of a brand new camry..which feels better? thank you but ill buy a 20k, 1999 600 with low-ish miles with warranty against a 2007-8 camry with 32 miles that does cost more than 20k.
