Just bought a 96 s320 with 287k miles

Hello to everyone, I just bought a 96 s320 with 287k, and the car runs great and is really clean, you would think it has 80k,,,

Anyways my question to you guys is how do I convert my cars' body to make it look like a newer s class benz??

p.s do you guys think it is a deal?, I bought it for 5,000 USD (runs perfect, looks great)

I HAVE TO AGREE HERE
As for the price well with no photos - if its as clean as you say you got a fair deal. But I have a '96 and it would talk a whole lot more than that to get me to part with it. They are great automobiles - If you want it to look different or "better" try wheels & tires and stop there. They are better than the newer ones why would you want to look like them???

As far as price its never the miles. Only three rules with an automobile....

To each his own, maybe the OP would like to personalize his 96 by making it look like a 99?

Are we talking about updating the W140 with new lights etc or converting it to look like a W220?

I do have to admit that the grandmother looking like my girlfreind comment is a good one.....

Anyways I was just thinking about maybe updating to make it look like a new body benz, I heard of people doing that before and I was just wondering how expensive it can get...

as for the smart *** saying I can update it to make it look like a 99, please bro just becuase this is my first Benz , it doesn't mean I don't know about them. Everyone knows 96 and 99 are same body, I am just really excited about getting such a good car for only 5k .

cheers

Congrats on getting the car for $5K but IMO I would leave the bodystyle alone. To make the upgrades, you would spend $15K and your deal on the car goes out the window. I would only perform upgrades that freshen up the W140 using W140 OEM ideas (like new headlights, taillights, latest wheels). Or better yet, keep the money in your pocket for when the car gives trouble such as suspension issues, electronic gremlins, etc.

Well 1991/2 are the same body as the 1998/9. But there was a facelift in 1994/5 and one in 1996/7 depending on market. Making it look like a W220 is IMO just like putting AMG badges on the back it's something it's not and it's a waste of time and money IMO.....Like a poster said save the money for repairs etc.

Watch your tone son, I was defending YOU as the tail lights and some minor things were updated between 96 and 99...if you wanted a W220 you should have worked a little harder, so now enjoy your 1996 until then.

Congrats...let's see some pics! As far as it goes doing any conversions, it's not worth, costs too much and on the end it just doesn't look right! You have a great looking car...keep it like that. W140 is one of my favorite body styles. Good luck with your car!

Hey brutha! a change of rims and tinted windows will make a huge difference, but like someone else said, to save your money due to a car being that old suspension problem will arise at anytime. My dad bought me a 1999 S320 with 137 miles and change and problems are starting to surface. I also realize that this car is a money pit . Everything in maintenance is like $500 plus. Enjoy your car as much as i am and have your pen ready to write big checks for repairs!lol

With 287K on it & 18 years old, you will need every penny to keep it running well in the future. So why not spend your money on preventative maintenance, instead of flashy bits??

"p.s do you guys think it is a deal?, I bought it for 5,000 USD" ...there is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes!

Hello,
all you need to do to make it like 99 is:
Replace the tirn signal corners
replace the back lights
if you want to spend more money you can replace the bampers

good luck

you could modify the body,to look like a wald. But I would build engine, and transmission first, then give her a turbo. You can build engine more and relieable get 900hp or better. Then get you body, and paint done.
