Nagging question, corner trunk pins?

Nagging question, corner trunk pins?

OK, for years I've wondered what the metal pins are on the rear corners of the S-Class. I've tried to search google to no avail. I just don't know what they are, and it bugs me every time I see one. Are they antennas of some sort? Part of a security system? I've just got to know.

Reversing Wands

Those are reversing wands that stick out when the car is put into reverse gear. Its hard for some people to see the rear of the car and they provide as guidence. After 97, these were replaced with the parktronic system.
