If you can afford it, I would go with the new S600. I would choose the Designo Graphite, along with the sports package!!

The new S600 is a much more luxurious vehicle over the standard S500, and is a bit more powerful (more torque) than the S55

S600
- 493 hp @ 5,000 rpm
- 590 lb-ft @ 1,800 - 3,500 rpm

Whichever one you decide upon please, please, please purchase the sports package!! The stock wheels are dreck.

If I'm not mistakened I believe bazzis is talking about a W140 Coupe.? In this case it I would without a doubt choose the S600 Coupe. Considering they're more rare the the S500 Coupe and seeing that the S600 is usually well taken care of because of that I still say the S600 is a better choice. Even if they is a 1 or 2 year difference it's more exclusive, powerful, and rare. I'll also bet that even with a 1 or 2 year difference the S600 Coupe will almost always have less mileage. The S600 will win every time in my comparison. Just my 2 cents!

Depends on what you are looking for.

The price difference between the 2 is pretty narrow now - especially considering the 600 was $40K more new!

If you want max luxury and performance with a little pricier maintenance then I'd definitely go with the 600.

The 500's are nice too and the 5 liter V8 is a MB workhorse with a good history.

You can find 500's pretty easily, 600's are rarer. I'd suggest you look at as late a model as you can afford as the S's are packed full of goodies that take MB several years to de-bug.

I found a 98 CL 600 with only 34K on the odo, and while I've only had it 2 months, I love it!

You can't go wrong either way with this incredible car.

I also have a 98 cl600. And i have a 97 S500 sedan. so I drive both engines. If its the engine your asking about i can tell you the S600 in the coupe is far more powerful and is alot smoother. If your going to get a 600 you should get at least a 96 or is it 97, whenever they changed to the 5 speed. They had engine oil leaks in the 4 speed version on almost all 600s The part that sucks is its a $3000 fix. I was gonna buy a 94 600 sedan back in the day, but it had this problem also. So if you want to spend in the 30 to 40 grand range then get a 97-99 600coupe, If you dont want to spend as much get a 500. I would not recommend an older s600, Unless you have unlimited funds for maintenance. hope i helped.
