Drive Belt Tensioner Issues
I have just replaced the tensioner adjustment rod and noticed that the rod when tightened (reverse thread) appears to retract the tensioner allowing for drive belt removal. But when loosened the issue is that the Drive Belt Tensioner does not return a position that provides enough tension on the D Belt.
My questions: How does it work? Is the D.B. Tensioner Strut when in a neutral position (ie. out of the car) supposed to be fully extended and the adj rod is used to remove the belt? Or is the Adj Rod suppose to extend the tensioner and therefore increase the tension on the drive belt? I noticed the D.B. Tensioner Adjustment Rod was stripped when replacing the air pump as I had to remove the "S" belt. The Adj Rod didnt move it either direction so I have no clue what the appropriate function is.
I would appreciate any assistance you could provide. Thank you.
