A/C recharge

Can I recharge the system myself with 134a or 134+? And is there a particular brand and fitting I should use, or can I simply buy a can from my local auto store and fill it? And where is the hook-up on the s420/500?

Thanks for any responses

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
You can

however are you sure that it is just a bit low,or is it empty? Are you sure the compressor is working?Later models had diagnostics built into the system, you don't have that so there lies the problem. Is it blowing cool air,not not the cold air you expect?
If it blowing ambient temp air or the compressor is not spinning at all, have it looked at by an indie shop.If it is blowing cool air, toss in a can of r134a (make sure it is not the crap with the stop leak junk in it)and see if that helps. It can only go in one fitting and that is usually located along the tube and has a black cap.
follow directions on the can.
If you have lost all of the r134a ,you need to locate the leak and get it repaired.
