560 SEL Tire recommendations, please
Hi , I've owned my 1991 560 SEL for about 4 1/2 years and really enjoy the handling. It came with Michelin MXV4 Energy's and these now needing replacement. I've put on a set of Nokian WR Plus2's at the recomendation of a local tire shop owner as I live in an area with some snow and ice and lots of rain.
I need to decide in the next day or so whether to keep these or not. I've noticed a definite increase in bounciness to the ride, though it doesn't feel harsher that with the Michelins. The ride feels "busier". What other tires would anyone with a similar vehicle recommend? I'm looking for decent handling and ride without excessive road noise.
Thanks

Well, now I feel a little foolish.
I had not noticed there was no W126 forum here.
Strange. MB sold many more W126's than W140's. And with the age and mileage that these cars have, you'd think there'd be a ton of interest in service and repair issues.

Thanks for the suggestion, Suginami. Why do you think the Michelin MXV4's are best? I have nothing against them, but I'm interested in knowing your reasons for your recommendation.
Yes, this forum was the closest I could find here. I did go over to Benzworld and found a W126 forum. Thanks.

The Michelin MXV4 Plus is an original tire for this car, designed by Mercedes for Mercedes vehicles.
It is a very high quality tire. The tires are very balanced, with very little road force variation in the side wall of the tire, which makes them easy to balance using very little weights.
Most of the techs that work on Mercedes have almost no problems with the quality of these Michelins, but the rate of problem tires is much higher with other brands.
Having said that, they are expensive, which is why others try their luck with other brands, which is understandable.
FWIW, I have read other owners being satisfied with a Yokohama tires and a bridgestone tire, although I don't remember what the specific models are.
Try reading some of the tire reviews at:

Thanks for your reply. I've looked extensively for Nokian WR tire reviews, but the only one I found was at a winter tire site and it involved a lifted station wagon (sorry, an "SUV"). TireRack doesn't carry Nokian.
Well, I think I'll take a chance on the Nokians. Later on, when I've formed a stronger opinion, I may report back on its performance. Maybe we'll get some snow...
