How to remove transmission shift gate?
Greetings. Got my '96 S600 Coupe yesterday, very nice car that needs a few things sorted. Right now, I can not move the shifter from D to 4 (or anything lower). I have taken the console off, took out the two screws on the back of the shift unit, and loosened the two hex keys on the right side of it. It won't budge. What should I do next?

Did you spill something down the console?Have you checked that the o ring and electrical connector to the trans on the passenger side of the trans has not leaked and needs to be replaced with the upgraded unit.
also time to change the fluid and filter on the 5speed mb spec 722.6 fluid only.
I have the special dipstick if you do the diy.

No, nothing was spilled to my knowledge.
I can't get the block out! I don't see anything in the W210 section regarding the shift gate.
The car has a 20k old transmission (installed new @ 100k), fluid should be good to go.

PRND are all controlled
mechanically and 1234 electronic.

in case the po dropped something in there or corrosion on the disengagement pin.Also check that you shifter bushing is not broken or worn out.
