1995 S320 Starts on Neutral

I bought a 1995 S320 recently and the car only starts when its put into neutral. Only sometimes starts on park. The people at the dealership said it was fine, nothing bad. What is the reason for this?

In most cars it is called the neutral safety switch! In a MB not sure what they may call it but should do the same job!!

hi - it is the automatic transmisson's neutral safety switch. One of its characteristic is to allow the car to start, only if the automatic transmisson box is in Park position. Once in Park the neutral safety switch is activated.

However, sometimes the neutral safety switch is not activated. This could be due to wear and tear (old age).

If this has happened, the automatic transmisson box will allow the car to be started in Neutral position.

I have experienced this once in a blue moon.....probably twice a year.

It is the neutral safety switch.....giving you the problem.

Sometimes the "neutral safety" switch can be adjusted, it is shown in a service bulletin. I cant understand why MB would say no problem, It also could be a worn, missing, shift rod bushing
