1998 S320W
Smell of burning plastic
I have a 98 S320 and have been smelling burning plastic from the front while driving. I turned off the blower to see if that had any impact and it still stunk. What could possibly be melting? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Burning Smell
Sounds like your main engine wire harness is experiencing the breakdown that they all do. Mercedes must have found the cheapest garbage they could to make these wire harnesses. They rot and fall apart causing a whole array of issues. Here are two links about the harness decay. First is a thread about 1000's of complaints to the NTSB . The second is a service that will rebuild the harness far less expensive than a new harness.

car after 96 do not suffer this problem.The v8s have a place on the block that can rub the block.the smell could be a leak in the valve cover.
