Need help on diagnosing a problem with my 93 400 sel
Here's my problem, I have a 93 400 sel. I'm having an issue where the car will die on me. The car will start normally and when I drive for about 5 miles down the road, it will start to sputter and die on me.
So far I've done a complete tune up, changed distribution cap, wires, spark plugs. As well as the mass air flow sensor. I'm not understanding what is happening here because the car won't show any error codes.
Has anyone come across this or at lead lend me some insight into this. I love this car and it has only 83,000 on it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

There are three possibilities, First, fuel pump is it in good condition? Second, control sysem since you can drive for 5 mi, the temperature should warm up a bit already but no fault codes show this is less likely cause. Third, Battery is it in good condition? When you start it up is it crank easily?

Well after many months of diagnosing the problem with my car. This is what the little bugger of the problem was. On our S class is a sensor that is under the accelerator. The sensor went bad and apparently is responsible for the engine management. Sorry if I botch this up, but the sensor basically controls how the car idles and distributes power.
For several months I was ready to pull all my hair out because anything I did wouldn't solve the problem and I thought that this car decided to quit and die on me. I replaced distributor caps and wires, countless of fuses, air mass flow sensor and basically did a engine tear down to see what the heck was going on. As soon as the sensor under that gas pedal was replaced, all my gremlins disappeared. The car has been running flawless for a month now.
