Front license bracket mounting question

My new to me '96 S420 came from Florida where apparently front license plates are not used(?) Anyway, I have the mounting plate which I see has two clips at the bottom that fit into the bumper; my question is, how is the top secured? (this thing looks new, never mounted) Do I screw it into the bumper? There aren't any holes there now. Thanks a bunch! Don't want to go goofing this up...

Yes, unfortunately you do screw it right into the bumper. I wanted to take mine off, but when I did I found two holes from the screws going into the face of the bumper. I think cars in general, and the S/CL in particular, look better without the front plate. I've driven all my cars without front license plates for years now and have lived in states where they're required (VA/TX) and have never been pulled for it nor when I've been pulled for other infractions have they even noticed the front plate missing. It's obviously your call, but like you I'd hate to drill holes into my car to mount a plate that detracts from the look in general.

Good luck!
