Noob question: Antenna goes up when ingnition....

1996 S500
Noob question: Antenna goes up when ingnition....
.....is turned on and stay up until ignition is turned off. Should it go up and down with radio instead?
I did not see this as much of a problem until I pulled up to the carwash, over the week end.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Car is a 1996 S500 Coupe.

Answer
My best guess is that someone has replaced the factory radio and/or CD player.
It is common for these alterations to screw up the antenna function.

Thanks for replying Roy. I finally got around to reading the owner's manual 
, where it clearly states that turning off telephone would keep antenna from going up at ignition. Next challenge was to find telephone's "Off" swicth; it is on the receiver. This problem is solved. Next, onto my power passenger seat.
