Power assisted trunk latch / door failure

Hi all,
Have got a 95' S500 Coupe. Apparently the pneumatic, power assist in both the doors and trunk failed. Trunk lid locks but does not close flush with the cars body. I do however have air pressure to inflate the lumbar support in the seats however.
A fuse maybe? Any ideas?

Thank for your valuable input!
I wonder if one of the airlines could have become detached causing a loss of pressure in the system. I will have to play with this over the weekend.

You can try this trick:
Inside the trunk on the right hand side. There is a fuse box. Remove fuse #3,6,9,11. Then wait for 30 seconds. Then put them back on.
Please tell me if it works. I have tried several times and it worked.
Good luck

I will try the fuse pulling routine. THis seems to jive with what I read elsewhere about a Electrolytic Capactor failing inside the pump. When the fuses are pulled, the capacitor will discharge, which might bring the pump back to life, if ever so briefly.

Eureka! Thanks RD Sport. Pulled the fuses and all is working once again.
Does the fact that this worked mean that the vacuum pump is
bad? Maybe the capacitor inside?

Hmmmm.
I hope I won't have to do this every week. But if I do, pulling 1 fuse is better than 4 !
.
I just am wondering what the root cause of the problem is.
Electrolytic capacitor are known to go bad over time.... I wonder if that is the real culprit here.

Hmmmmm
I am forceful.....on the doors. I would not call it slamming.
Before this happened, the trunk lid was not catching all the time and I would have to use alot more force than I normally use to engage the latch. I attributed it to a minor mechanical missalignment on the latch. In the past, it took almost no pressure at to close the trunk. My wife is gulity of always slamming the trunk and I told her not too... BUT now even I have to!
Now that the power assist is working again I still have to forcefully close the trunk a FEW TIMES before the latch engages.
Think its time to get a 1999 CL500

Well...............after pulling the fuse, the problem dissappeared for 8 hours.... and now its back again. hmmmmmmmmm
I guess I can:
1) Get a new pump
2) put a relay / timer in line with the #9 fuse
3) disect my pump
4) ?????
Is there a 4th option ??

Take it to a honest shop and let them do the tests. A non dealer shop could order a rebuilt or used part to save some bucks. Mine always ordered parts those are either the same year or later.

contact George Murphy email address george_murphy@
compuserve.com I believe his firm can rebuild your unit.
He is very reputable. He is also technical director of the
Star magazine. My instrument cluster and central locking
pump is at his facility right now, being rebuilt.

Thank you, I will email him soon. Also is there anything special that needs to be taken into account when replacing one of these or is it rather straight forward?

I went to pull the Vaccuum pump but it was no where to be found. I pulled out liner in rear left trunk ( where CD changer is )
and it is not there. ANy ideas where this thing is located?

If anyone could enlighten me as well on the location for our car, I would appreciated it. Plan to try and pull it this weekend so we can send it off for a rebuild.
