Cleaning up lower facia...
Hi All - I'm new to the forum; just bought a 1995 S420 in very good condition overall, charcoal grey metallic with black interior and 100k miles.
I've owned a 140 previously (1995 S320), so I'm relatively familiar with them, however that car was less than five years old when I bought it and basically pristine, so I'm encountering one or two things now I didn't have to deal with the first time around.
One of them is the lower facia; it's a little weathered and could use a minor cleanup. On my last car all I did to the lower panels was keep them clean, apply a good coat of heavy-duty wax (Collinite) and all was well.
Now I feel like I need to use something a little more agressive to help clean them up, but my usual paint cleaners don't seem appropriate to the finish on these panels. Note that it's just the side facia panels, and not the front/rear bumpers, which I suspect were painted at some point because they're pretty much perfect.
So what does everyone recommend as far as a paint cleaner/compound for these panels? I'm pretty experienced with detailing and have a dual-action polisher as well. They're really not bad, just need some TLC, so I'd hate to think the only solution was a respray.
Any help is appreciated!
