hissing noise

I heard sort of a hissing low volume noise comming from the overhead console in front where the lights switches are. In the overhead light area there is a vent looking piece and thats where the hissing noise is comming from?

Anyhow had experience with that? what causes it?

The little grille is a "air" return, to sample the temperature in the car. I have been told there is a little fan associated with it. I think the word was aspirator.

Peter, that is correct. It helps the climate control system get a better feel for the temp inside the cabin. On the 124 the aspirator motor is behind the glove box near the passenger air vent.

The hissing noise should be present when the key is in the ON position. The aspirator runs continuously while driving.
