Angry Throttle control module or ASR unit failure?

Has anyone with the 500 ever had one of these fail? If so, what were your symptoms and at what mileage did it/they fail? A mercedes mechanic friend of mine told me that those were possibilities of whats broken on my car. I notice that when I am heavy on the gas, it will usually illuminate the ASR light and the throttle will become unresponsive right up until you hit the kickdown. It also locks the idle at 1200rpm. My stuttering/missing has majically gone away. The car still bounces between 2 and 800rpm when I'm taking a turn off gas, and will die if I'm not on throttle. Slowing down to a stop, I notice the revs will bounce like that too, and sound like a knock. So, anyone had these problems and/or had the parts listed above fail?

Update, when the ASR light comes on and the throttle becomes unresponsive until I'm almost at the kickdown, it doesn't bounce revs or die when I turn. So I'm leaning towards an ASR problem instead of the throttle control module, although I really dont know.

Correct. I had an ASR related problem in my C280. The light lits, zero acceleration and it seems the car almost died.
