The Mirror Is Lose

The Rear View mirror in an S class is loose and is probably broken.

Any suggestions for a replacement besides the MB dealership ???

Thanks,

Either One

The dealer wants $1,200.00 for it.

I had the exact same problem. Dealer quoted me $900 for a replacement. I found an OEM one on eBay for $150. Took me a couple of months to find it, but definitley worth the $750 I saved!

Car is at the dealer right now getting some other work done and the mirror installed. I'll let you know how it works.

Rear view mirror

Do you mean the outside mirror? One that folds in? If so, I replaced it on my wife's '95 S320 without any problem. Ordered the mirror from Bud's Benz - about $250 (don't remember the exact price, but that's close). You're only replacing the innards, not the plastic shell. Easy job. Took no more than 30 minutes with no special tools or skill. Have to send in your VIN, because there's several styles.

If you are talking about the inside rear view mirror, you can try tightening a nut on the mounting bracket. You can remove the mirror by just yanking it off, MB inside rear view mirrors are designed to come off when hit by an object. So it doesnt smash your skull if you happen to hit it in an accident.

Eddie - you get it fixed yet?

I just got my new one installed and it's kinda funny, but even a small repair like that really makes a big difference. No more jumpy cars in my rearview as I cruise down the road or looking at the ceiling after accelerating hard!
