Soft closing doors S280 1998 W140
Hi,
On my driver’s door when I close the door softly, the door closes itself with the soft closing mechanism, however after 10 secs the door pops out about 5mil. It is flush with the rear door, so I presume when it self closes it is going in too much.
Any idea why this is happening.
Thanks in advance

bad adjustment?
try this test:
open door. use a screwdriver or somthing to 'click' the latch overcentre to emulte the door being closed. you should see the latch do its auto close thing (and if the 4 door windows do this, they should move to the full up posistion)
keep watching... if after 10 seconds, they are still in the same place, the latch mech is OK...
the mech and the striker have adjustment - the latch on the B pillar is held with (IIRC) torx bolts. mine were incredibly tight - use only a good quality wrench! adjust 2mm at a time - use a pencil to mark the original posistion of the striker

Soft closing
The seals have nothing to do with it there is no reason to keep vacuum on the retractor once the door is latched/retracted. It has to be released so it is ready to retract and close the door again.
