Question Bonnet (hood) wont open

I was replacing the driver side (RH) headlight on my 1997 S280 and upon closing the bonnet (hood) I caught a glimpse of the plastic cover not quite secure, alas it was too late.

I never heard the "click", and now the pulley doesn't "click when trying to open as if it was unlocked but it is not.

Any ideas please on how to open the the bonnet/hood please...

I wouldn't do this. Have you tried using wire to fabricate a hook to disengage the latch through the grill? These W140 parts are getting more expensive as they get older so I would advise against breaking anything.

Will give it a shot, thanks.

Are there catches on the sides, or is it just the one below the star i need to worry about?

No side catches. Just the one in the middle. You also might want to take the debris cover off the underside of the car to see if you can get a better visual of where the latch is. If the hood is sitting with a gap above the grill you can try inserting the wire hook through the gap and see what it catches. Good luck and let us know if you are able to get it open.

There are catches/latches on BOTH sides for the W140.
The center star on the grill houses the release lever....pull that towards you and supposedly releases the locks on both sides.
