Checking self levelling hydraulic fluid in S600L

When checking the level of the hydraulic fluid of the S600's self levelling system, should the engine be on or off?

With the engine turned off, the fluid level reads to be correct, but when you turn on the engine, the level increases and the dipstick reads above the maximum level.

Which is the correct reading?

Thanks

I check mine on my 500 when off, I think it also says "vehicle unloaded". Since the fluid is constantly circulated you might be seeing a false reading due to it splashing back into the resevoir
