Ride Comfort Going from 17" to 18"

I know this is subjective... but on the w140, for those who have switched from stock 17" to 18", even though there is performance increase have you experienced a big loss in comfort?

Thanks

hmm i noticed difference, but its not necessarily bad. the S320 with 16's and baloon tires did ride damn soft, and 18's with low profile tires rode more firm but at the same time handling and alot of other characteristics changed, there is alittle more road noise (more dependent on tires than anything else). It makes my car feel like S500 now though, much more sure footed. My stock suspension is going out though so alot more bumps are apperant. ride quality after new suspension should improve. hope that helps

I agree with ome...

By the way, the stock on w140 are 16's...

I have owned couple of w140's....the one i keep, is a 97 s500 , and has 18's amg...

It is a firmer ride, more sporty. My brother-in-law likes that stiff feeling, i like the more softer ride, but i chose that because the car looks better with 18's low profile amg monoblocks.

I think 18's is the best choice if you want to upgrade. (The last year w140 grand edition had 18's, i think its perfect combination of comfort and sport). I have read of people who had 19's and 20's that experience much of a harsh ride, and even though 19's and 20's might look bigger, they would have preferred 18's....

Thanx Guys

Great ... that sums it up nicely (I am looking for the best combination of comfort and sport) I have a black '99 s420. I am going to put 18" Lorinser 8.5 in the front and maybe 9.5 in the rear. Any suggestion on tires that would eliminate any road noise and discomfort? The place I am getting them from has Michellin Pilot XGT on them right now.

tires

I got my tires for my tirerack.com

mine are continental extremes, and i found these to be the best tires for what i am looking for, and were i live (madison,wi) considering i do winter driving.

They have reviews on all major tires from people who actually bought and tried them, positive and negative.

check it out.

good luck
