Question S320 Repair manual ???

I have looked for a repair/service manual with no luck. I found one on ebay but starting bid was $169. , thats alot to spend without knowing what your getting for sure. Heck what am I saying thats just a lot of money! Checking this site I found many places that said MB didn't release manuals for 5 + years after intro of car, but mine is a '96. Is there such a manual out there? CD or Book One site had someone copying CD manuals and sending them to people, but I haven't been able to find that site again. Becides at least at the time I felt funny about going that route. Now seeing how hard it is to find, maybe it wasn't such a bad idea.

Anyway, any help finding one I as well as others I'm sure would be appreciated.

I just spoke with Nancy at 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES (MBUSA owner help). The complete manual set for W140 cars will be out on a 2 CD set within four weeks and should sell for about $149. I have this for my 124 car and it was invaluable when I yanked the drivetrain last year.

It is my understanding that the CD will be available from this website.

http://www.mercedestechstore.com/onlinestore.htm

As you can see there are other models already available.

I am waiting for it to become available for the W140 also.

To Cool

Well once again thanks, I should have asked first and saved a lot of time. But then again if I heard $149 before looking I still would have felt like I needed to look for myself. - Just the kind of guy I am -

D- once again you know the scoop - I am a do it yourselfer, but need the Manuals.

Tom What do you think about your K&N Filter? I've been told you can actually feel the differance v relying on claims. My car is a 6 cylinder not the 8 like yours but am sure its all in perspective.
What other type of things are people doing to bust performance without getting radical ?

Rod, I like to think that any knowledge I share which makes someone else's life a little easier is worth sharing!

By the way on the subject of K&N, here is what George Murphy, Technical Director of the MBCA has to say:

K&N Filters - not such a good idea
I am averaging 2 calls a week about ruined MASS AIR FLOW sensors because the owner switched to a K&N air filter that uses oil as a filter medium.

Bosch (mfr of MAF sensors) advises against these type filters. The oil mist from the filter eventually "poisons" the MAF sensor, causing expensive diagnosis and repair bills. MAF sensors can run $300 to $800 depending on model.

Also - the K&N units I have seen have considerably less filter area than the OEM filters used on MBs. K&N may work for lesser cars like Fords or Chevys that have small air filters, but MBs typically have much larger engine air filter area than the K&N. and will not benefit from installing a smaller filter.

On the K&N issue I have heard of the problems with the MAF sensor. I have also been told that is when someone that is using this type of filter that over oiled the filter. The excess oil is what caused the problem.

Just FYI the S-600 is a V12 not V-8. Do you have any pics of yours?

Tom
