Post 94 S500 Coupe VS 99 CL500

Got a chance to put these side by side and here are my comments:

- The 94 has a RED / GREEN light in door handle that indicates that door is locked / unlocked. 99 uses the blinkers in rear/front of car. I prefer the 94'.

- 94 had no antenna for radio ( in windshield) , 99' has an external antenna. I prefer the 94'. Why they added the external antenna in the 99' I will never know. THese antennas break all the time. Yes.. the capture area in these antennas will result in better reception.... but unless you are in the middle of now where, you will never notice the difference. Bring back the windshield antenna!

- 94 has two chrome pop up rods in trunk area that pop up when in reverse. Way coooool. 99' does not have this....but it does have Parktronics. I want the chrome rods in the 99'

- Much nicer split console arm rest in 99'

- Xenon's in 99' kick butt over the 94'

- Moon roof in 99' . Not in 94. 99' MUCH NICER !!!!

- Nicer softer leather in 99'. Jurys out on this. I think the harder leathe rin the 94' will be much more durable in the longh run.

- Side airbags in the 99' not in 94

- Chromed trunk handle in 99' , not in 94

- Multibutton remote in 99' , One button in 94'

- Bose radio has improved button switches over 94'

- A/C control changed to LCD read out type.
THis new LCD version is nice, since it does not suffer from all the burned out light bulbs the old one did. HOWEVER.... I miss the one button OFF switch in the OLD 94'. Now to turn off the 99' LCD verswion requires multiple pushes of the FAN button. NOT TOO SMART.

- Winter Summer Traction switch on 99'. Dont know if this works, BUT one thing is for sure... you do NOT want to drive a 94' in the snow and ice.

- New 5 speed tranny in 99'. When parked, it does not roll half a foot like the 94' . YAY!! In the 94' you must use parking brake or get scared to death. Smooth shifting but appears to lack the get up and go of the 94'. I do not like all the detents in the shifter of 99'. I can see it will be impossible to rock the car back and forth ( Drive to Reverse ) if I am ever stuck in the snow or mud. 94' did does not have this issue.

I have a 95 which is pretty much like the 94, I believe.

In winter driving, I had winter tires on and no drama.
My wife's Bimmer has that setting, made no difference to me. It just starts the car in second gear on that mode since the big benz is already starting on second.

I don't recall it rolled half a foot when in park, just a little.

You can add a chrome here and there with all the chrome parts available. I added a chrome border for the shift plate. And I don't care for the chrome trunk handle. Fingerprints would show up more in chrome.

Overall, I am happy with my 95.
