1994 S420 Sputtering when accelerating
Hi W140 Family,
Need some help with my My 1994 S420 sputters when I accelerate after the car gets up to normal operation temp around 80. It idles smoothly, but give it some gas even in park it will sputter at normal temps. The car has about 56K miles on it.
I want to change out the MAF Sensor, but don't know if that will solve the problem. Just purchase a new battery that matches the requirements for the car. Still did not solve the problem. Also the car does not have a check engine light.

I have a 1997 S420 that had that idle sputter.
When car is in park does the idle sputter? If so pop up the hood and check and listen for a hissing or air suction noise cuz mine had no check light at all but one of air hoses had been somehow popped off and engine wasnt getting any air so idle was going wild in park up and down happened after I pushed car a little more than usually that day hopefully that's your issue that's a $0 fix just attach hose back to its fitting. It's a rubber hose. Let me know if it helps out this hose also is under the forward facing engine cover just pop it off and ull see hoses on right side.

If you also don't mind used parts from salvage vehicles depending on parts I go this route at times car-part.com

Hi PersianW212, Thanks for your reply.
I changed the distributor cap and rotors and spark plugs solved the problem. I think the problem was caused by the spark plugs in the end.
The car only has 56K miles but was not on the road for more than a year.
