Talking Removed air resistor from s500 grill. Helped a lot!

Yesterday I was trying to figure out how to get more air into the car. I picked up the hood and I see 2 air resistors behind the grill. so I close my hood I look it totally covered the intake's... I took it off and I felt a diffrence. So I tested it out with my freind who's car is always dead even with me 20-130. we never pull on each other since I got my chip and air filters... I went out for a run with him and I was 1/2 car ahead of him. I couldn't beleive my eyes. so I slowed down and we ran 3 more times and it was the same result all 3 times.... I was just amazed. The car breath's much better and it gets more power...

pull up ur hood and on the inside side of the grill there are two triangular plastic air "blockers" ... just take a flathead and pull them off ... there are just smalll clips holding them in ...

they are there to stop debris / water from entering the air intake - as baffles...

i dont condone this personally. nor the K&Ns (due to the MAS sensor problems associated with it....)

I haven't had a problem with it yet. as long you don't over oil the air filter it should be just fine.....

Nice but its risky, you could really damage your engine from debris flying into your air intake and really futz things up, becareful.

I don't think its risky at all... any debris will be stopped by the airfilters anyway... In addition, there is a mesh above the filter on the airbox housing.

I took mine off as well, and it feels pretty quick at 120+ km/h. When I stepo on the "go fast woohoo" pedal, it feels like a much lighter car.

Certain cars are even manufactured this way,... TransAm WS6 with LS1 and ram air is designed from the factory to feed air directly to the filter where any debris would be stopped by the filter.

snik did u cut out the other air resistor. I was thinking about it but not sure if I shoudld it. it blocks about 3/8 of the air intake. if u look straight ahead u can see it.

you are talking about the shroud in front of a/c fans with 2 portrusions covering the inlet of air intake pipes right? I took off that whole shroud (4 fasteners), and put it in the trunk.. in the event it rains very heavily I will put in on (minus the fasteners), and when rain subsides I will remove it again.

it would probably be a good idea to put it back on if it rains hard... for a slight drizzle I wouldn't worry about it too much

i cant remember how things are laid out exactly on that engine however a cone style filter with a outerwears cover would allow you lots of air and no risk of water ingestion. outerwears are great prefilters that are splash proof, the dodge cummins diesel community (my other ride) and experimented with them a lot!

yes there is, they make 3 inch diameter cylinder type K&N air filters for cars with tight spots. running one on each bank would definately help alot, also the sound would be absolutely amazing. that plus air baffle removal would allow air to run directly to filter. a great mod in my opinion and its cheap to, only $35ish per filter.
