ADS help! Light on light off

I need help! The ADS light on muy 1993 600 SEL comes on while riding down the road. When I come to a stop I turn wheel hard left and hard right to recalibrate. Light stays on. I turn the car off and light goes off. A few minutes later it comes on. Is the angle sensor bad or is the connection loose.

Also, when the light comes on what default mode is it in? Comfort or sport.

Thanks for any help.

The car should automatically disable ADS; thus, it will default to a mode that resembles "Sport." Unfortunately, your symptoms are too ambiguous to provide an absolute diagnosis. If you intend to continue driving the vehicle prior to servicing it, however, you should probably attempt to ensure that no hydraulic leaks exist. If they remain unchecked, such leaks can eventually cause additional problems that are somewhat "costly" to repair.

HTH!

Wintermute,

Did once over on hyrdraulics and no leaks. Got codes, 3 and a 14. Code 3 is a body acceleration sensor and code 14 is steering angle sensor not initialized.

Question is two fold. Do these sensors go bad and does the sensor initialize before the steering sensor? Any ideas?

Thanks

Sensors

Sensors do go bad, MB warns not to bang on any area where they are installed. They are mounted on the front steering knuckles, one on the left side of the engine compartment. There is also a load sensor that is in line with the leveling valve and the left rear pressure reservoier, they all send info to the ADS control unit.
The steering angle sensor must be initialized if it lost power or the battery was disconnected. The ignition must be on and the steering wheel turned from left lock to right lock (according to the notes)

Peter,

Thanks for input. Body and wheel acceleration sensors $330.00 each, steering sensor $1300. I will be converting to standard shocks.

Thanks

Helga

Just found out the ADS is not working in the 600SEL. The suspension is as hard as a rock!!
