Goo on Sunroof

Has anyone had goo on their sunroof? The sunroof no longer goes all the way back, and when it resets to close, the top has a very sticky substance on it - really hard to remove, too. What is between the roof panel and the head liner that could cause this?

Mine too

My '96 S420 has the same malady. I even found a black tar like substance that had attached itself to the sliding cover. I'm presuming the material is some sort of insulation or sound deadening that has come loose. When I get the goo on the glass, I wipe it off with a paper towel & Acrili Clean (a paint-frieldly solvent). Short of pulling the headliner down, don't know of a remidy. Would like to hear if others have solved this.

Just saw another one

I saw another 140 with goo on its sunroof too. I stopped to look at the car 'cause it was the same color as mine, black pearl. I am wondering if dark color has something to do with this...??

I have the same issue. The inner linning is coming out. I just could not believe this kind of a quality problem i had. But a lot of tar like substance already came out and now the sunroof gets all the way back. Its actually a plastic/hardboard kind of material that comes when u close the sunroof. I am assuming its the inner linning.

I clean the goo with "goo gone".

add me as well

add me to the list too.. i have a 97 s500 with 70 k or so, and i experienced that gooy chuncky black tar, still do. I dont open the sunroof much these days.

I hate to say this , but i have had sold honda's , chevys, fords,etc.. with double the miles of mine and not a problem like this !

I have had simple issues like my buttons for the window controls have sunk into the the middle tray, among other simple gadgets mulfunction. It dissappoints me having to experience these problems, from a car that is worth 100k new, and has low miles and been taken care of !

sounds like it might be what they use to seal the sunroof in...

Problem fixed

Went to a garage run by a former Mercedes dealer mechanic. He knew immediately what the problem was. As many of you suspected, it's the sound deadner in the roof. The adhesive which they use to glue it on the roof comes loose in the front. When the roof is retracted, it bends the deadner double, and restricts the roof from going back, and puts goo on the roof.
He fixed it by removing the sun roof, and wacking at the deadner panel with a home made tool like a machete. Just have to dig it out. Problem fixed for 2 hours mechanic time. Most of the time is in taking the sun roof panel out and replacing it.
