'96 Radio reception

I know I have read how the antena is hooked to the bumper or frame on this car. But I live in Phoenix - Flat & compact. My radio comes in and out as Ii drive around, getting to the point I would rather just listen to CD's. Is this normal to have this bad of recetion? Is there anything I should check or do ? Is there a fix for this?
Also I'm looking for a repair manual. I prefer working on it myself when I can.

Thanks Rod

Rod,

You can convert the existing power antenna to the tri-band (am/fm/cell) if you wish, you just need the following parts and MB Service Bulletin MBNA 82/91, August 1996:

1 - Tri-band mast antenna conversion kit, Q 6 82 0256
1 - Short coaxial cable, 003 820 73 15
1 - Splitter, 140 820 18 89

I do not know what the pricing is for these parts, but I seem to remember that it would cost about $300.

Thinking about it you may have answered this for me before when I first got the car. Just now getting around to worrying about it. We had talked about TriStar Pete's in the past...... Do you have a simular type place
in the Valley for your S420 parts ( new or Used ) ? My rear view Mirror has some problems and I'm looking for a inexpencive way to replace it. Dealer is just short of $900 ebay had one for $400. At that price I'll live with the vibrating. The sencer for the remote is part of the mirror housing and isn't working well ether. You have to be right up to the car window for it to pick it up. Not sure why this is having problems snce its wired through the mirror but not part of what seems to be broken.

I can't even remember back that far!

I know that TriStar is moving out/has moved, so I will be looking for a local parts source soon too. The guys at buymbparts.com can probably get these parts for you, just call or email, (800) 741-5252 - parts@mbz.org.

As for the mirror, I really have no idea where you could find one for less than $300-$400.

As for your keyless remote, I would start with a fresh battery in your sender. I have also heard that window tint can reduce the range of the remote considerably, if you have it. A good test would be to shoot through the windshield.
