how to find out transmission model??

Hi,

I have a 1995 S500. Why can I look to find out the type of transmission I have.

Transmission is not very smooth lately, want to change oil and filter. Need to know if it uses non-synthetic or the life-time fluid.

Thanks in advance.

95 is the earlier gearbox - it will have E/S switch not S/W

this means its the non-electronic box. therefore the 'normal' fluid - but i'd still get the right stuff from MB themselves - the price difference is worth the worry factor imho.

2002 E55 AMG
Economy/Standard

Winter/Standard

Economy and winter both start the car off in first gear unless the kickdown button is pushed down or the gear selector in first.

Just to answer part of your earlier question, your transmission is:

722.370 AUTOMATIC FOUR-SPEED TRANSMISSION WITH CONVERTER, MODEL YEAR '95

I have had no problems using a decent Dexron in any of the MBs I have owned, usually Castrol is my first choice. The electronically operated models that guy referred to do use a different fluid. And, 1996 and newer, MB only recommends the MB Synthetic trans fluid.
