Happy new owner of 500 SEL
Hi there guys.
I just purchase that beauty a week ago. Car is from 1993 and has only 60k miles.
Newer owned old car like that, so I have few questions.
What oil I should use and filter for that vehicle ? Where to look for proper parts numbers ?
Rear doors are giving strange sounds while opening like knocking. Anyone noticed that too ?
Any advice what to look for and avoid during owning that kind of vehicle ?
Best regards !

Congrats! Looks great. I'll leave it to the more knowledgeable on this forum to respond to your tech questions . . . but, IMO, I think you may want to check into the rear ride height, as I'm assuming you have air suspension on the SEL500. It appears to be riding a bit low.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Congratulations - please understand as a "pending Classic" you over 25yrs of earlier Owner Posts and Videos to draw from
Google - mbworld.com and benzworld.com forums - and your "search" will give you all the info you need
It's a question of getting the "Right Part" and reputable Internet Aftermarket portals, autohausaz.com , fcpeuro.com, eeuroparts.com, etc - are your "friends" Retail auto parts stores, and parts shops like partsgeek, ebay, etc that offer "cheapest" non-brand/quasi brand parts are not your "friends" since you don't know what part/maker to avoid
YES - it looks like your Rear Suspension has Dropped - research Rear Accumulators - kindof "rough" for 1st time replacement - Corteco Brand (not China) - $80 X2
Check Google for YouTube Videos on any specific job - there will LOTS of "old stuff" there
4. Oil = 0W40 8/12 qts Oil Filter = MB "Oil Filter Kit" filter/seals/new copper oil pan washer is like $18 - filter only MB- or Bosch - or Mann (only) like $10 - any-brand/no-brand 74mm 14-flute oil filter wrench like $12
5. Air Filter - (2) required - Mann ONLY (not any other bullsh*t filter) = 2 pack $20 on Amazon
6. When replacing Air Filters - have $12 of MAF Cleaner and clean MAF/air dry at the same timer
7. Fuel Filter = Bosch or Hengst $12-$15 - get a replacement MB Fuel Filter Sleeve (plastic sleeve around new fuel filter) like $4
8. AFTER fresh fuel filter - 10 oz bottle Sta-Bil Marine Fuel Stabilizer (Blue) $15 - dump 1/2 bottle in and fill the tank - use the other 1/2 bottle 6-8 tanks of fuel down the road
9. If you have a 10+ second turns-over-for-1st-morning start - replace Bosch Fuel Pressure Regulator (Bosch only) on front of engine - about $35
10. When you are ready - research Transmission Filter Kit and Transmission Fluid Change
11. When you are ready - research Spark Plug Change - F8DC4 original Bosch "copper" spark plug - needs to be changed every 20K miles/2Yrs
12. Flush out all old coolant - "could be" Old Yellow - "could be" newer Blue - either way flush all out with fresh hose water - use Zerez G-48 (new) and dilute concentrate with Distilled Water (no hose water)
