Strange Bulb Issue??

Ok, i owned a 300E for many years and when the replace bulb warning light came on I could easily find the light that was out and replace it. I now have a 96 420S. The replace bulb warning light comes on when the temperature is cold outside. If the temp is warmer the warning light does not come on. Could this be related to defrosting or something like that? I think that my windows could have been frosted a little when the light comes on. Other than that I am at a loss.....

bit of corrosion on a bulb contact - as it gets cold, it shrinks a bit?

So are you saying that when the light comes on, you can't find a bulb

that isn't working? what about third brake light? My third brake light was working intermittently and triggering the dash warning light. I could remedy it briefly by pulling out and replacing the bulb retainer. I finally took a longer look at it this past weekend and found that the flanges on the bulb retainer were bent a bit and the fit and electrical contact was loose. There was evidence of arcing, too. I bent the flanges to a tight fit and sanded the contacts clean. All better.
