Tourqe is nice in a truck when towing a 30 foot trailer full of rock, but who cares in a car. Its about weight HP and I agree tranny and gearing play a huge factor.

actually in our case TORQUE is all that matters. the reason mercedes can pull the numbers that they do is b/c of the massive amounts of torque they produce. in high weight situation high torque is what matters not HP. it would be no good if my motor produced 300HP but only 150 ftlb torque, i'd rather have the car stock b/c it would accel faster. AMG motors all have more torque then HP.

Torque is what accelerates the car, HP is what sells the car

In that case I’m going to do an engine swap from my 6 to a 16 cyl Caterpillar engine with 800 pounds of tourqe and 250 hp

you mean 300SE? There is a difference between the 300SE 3.2 and S320. both are same size, but the entire intake side of teh car is different i believe. the S320 intake wraps around to the opposite side of the engine bay (not good btw b/c of exhaust manifolds are right there so it heats that side up alot). but i believe the intake manifold might be the same, not honestly sure though, i'd need a detailed picture of your engine bay to say for sure. it should work on most 3.2 motors though i believe. hope that helps

That is very stupid defensive statement. YOu think every AMG car has so much torque so that they can tow 30 foot trailers??
S320 does not have torque or HP to do anything. I dont know what you are driving but S320 is a TRUCK in comarisson to S500. once you drive S420 or S500 in w140 --------- S320 is not an option.

BAck in 1997 it took me one short drive at hte dealership to take S500 over S420. The drive in S320 took me a short time to know right away that I could never afford to pay so much money for so little in the S class.
Looking back now and with a new S class coming I wish now I never traded my W140 S 500 for W220.
S320 and S500 may look hte same but they are a world apart in comfort(engine noise in s320 is unexceptable for ANY S calss) and performance.
You can argue here all you want but on hte highway or at a stop light OmniHomni will lose 100 our of 100 times to s500. Just accept it and move on.

ya normal S320 is so slow b/c of the horrible gearing for such a small 6. Thats why i'm glad i got a 300SE, cuz this thing moves like no other. I have zero noise in my 300SE so i dont konw what you are talking about. seems like your experience was witha lemon or something. mine actually drives better than my moms S500.
