Considering purchase of 2003 S55 AMG
Dear Forum Members,
I am new to this forum, so please be patient. I currently own a 2002 C32 AMG which I bought new. The car is great, but I am starting to dislike more and more the space constraints, and I am a big fan of the S class. I weigh 280 pounds and am 6 feet tall, so now I finally admitted I need a big car. I am considering buying from a dealership a used loaded 2003 S55 AMG with 33K miles for $72K. Here are my questions:
(1) Does that sound like a reasonable deal?
(2) Are there any special concerns relating to the 2003 model year?
(3) Are there any benefits to going with the 2004 or even 2005 model year?
(4) Should I get an extended warranty?
Thanks for your input,
Jose

paid 77k wholesale for 03 s55 with several extra options. the price is around wholesale not too much higher because of the mileage. get the starmark extended warranty if you like everything else about the car. check for any abuse. if only high miles the car will be good.

What are you guys talking about? It's 2 years old..
High Miles?? 33k That is absolutely normal mileage for a 2003, Average driving is between 12k-15k miles a year, And as long as it's starmarked it sounds like a great deal....

Thank you for responding. The car is not starmark certified. I will hold off the purchase until I have gotten the report. Apparently, the starmark certification only adds one year to the warranty...
Are there any problems with the 2003 model year s-class in general that I should look out for?
Thanks in advance,
Jose
