Now is the Time to buy W220

As the w221 has been released, prices are going to drop by at least 5 K this year. I am expecting that you will be able to buy one for 16K before the end of the year is out. There is suddently a surplus of w220 sellers either selling to buy the new one, or have traded into the dealer..

This has happened before to me, I bought a 2005 ML500, not but three months later with the introduction the 2006 ML release, dropped about 5K. Of course, the ML is a bad example because that was a very old model ( 7 yers) and there was a lot of demand to rid of the old model and get the new one.

so what do you think is the best strategy , buy the w220 now or wait til 6 months ?

Don't think it will make too much of a difference in 6 months since dealers are already receiving W221s.

Want a W220? Buy one now.

2004 S500
Some people have to have the latest and greatest. I saw a 2004 S65 AMG at a dealer yesterday in a holding lot they use to keep cars going to auction!!! I inquired and was told that they took it in on trade for a 2007 S550 Launch Edition...plus $20000!!! I was told that I could probably buy the S65 for less than $75K if I made a quick offer to the sales manager. Before I could walk around the car two guys started putting it on the trailer to take it to the auction. Here in South Florida in season the Big Money people go nuts. I have been to two dealers in the past three days and both of them had McClarens on the showroom floor!! I have also seen some good deals on late model E 350's and E500's. Drove an '04 E500 w/21K miles, no nav...ask was $37,500 also an'06 E350 w/1K miles ask was $49K w/Nav...there are car deals out there. I think W220's will hold their own. They still turn my head...of course I'm prejudiced.

It's one thing to buy a W220 for that kind of money and it's another thing to be able to afford the maintenance and repair costs of these cars that can easily add up overnight. It wouldn't matter if you are buying it now or later, the price drop has already happened just by MB announcing they are bringing the W221s. It would be better to pay a little more and get a 05-06 model that by now is near perfect. All the bugs that plaque the earlier 220s have been worked out and you'll be getting a really good car. In my opinion instead of spending 28-35 on a 2000 S430 with all the milage and bugs, I would look into a different model still under warranty. All you have to do is look into this forum and see how many problems there are with these earlier models. Just my 2cents.

Very good advice. The later model years tend to be over more stable quality. Also, MBZ ended the free maintenance 2 model years ago!

New MBs are 4 year/50,000 mile.

And yes, getting a 2006 W220 would be ideal. Great car, minimal, if any, problems.

2004 S65 AMG for less than $75,000...you have got to be joking. Unless something is wrong with the car, that price is ridiculously low.
