DId I see a s320 correctly ???

the other day, I saw this women driving a w220 style s-class..okay no big deal. As I am walking past, I notice the Back of the car says S350 or S320

okay, well I m thinking how the hell do you have that car I thought mercedes only made s430 and s500...

so I asked her where did you get this car ?

She said she bought it a few months ago...

can any of you confirm that there does exist a w220 s350/s320 available in the US markets ??
I see the w221 models , very enticing but not the w220.

The S350 was introduced in the W220 S Class in the last year of that vehicle's production. It does not feature the new 3.5 Litre engine, but rather a tuned version of the W163 ML350's 3.7 Litre V6. The only 320 in the W220 lineup would be the CDI model, which was not sold in the United States.

The S320 was sold in the UK and was actually the best selling S Class here until superseded by the S350. 2003/4

The wheelbase is shorter. The S350 has a wheelbase of 198.5 in while the S500 has a wheelbase of 203.3 in. This information is taken from yahoo autos. Below is the link if you want a more detailed comparison.

Mercedes all the way!
i was actually quite surprised when i was in HK and saw the S500, in SHORT wheelbase. that's really strange, must be quite a rocket, though!

sklasse, come to Asia, then you can see S280 haha. heard they are phasing that out with the W221, though.

I saw a S280 when I was in China. What kind of engine does that thing have? I wonder if it even has enough power to drive up an incline.

quite happy that MB decided to bring back the s in 6 cylinders ..

My local dealer has the w221 for 55 K , and a w220 for 42K. The main advantage is the BETTER fuel economy and cheaper cost to OWN.

55K or 75 K for S450 ..you tell me which you'd rather pay ?

well, it's actually not too bad at all. my friend has one and it works fine - sure, not a rocketship but enough for both city and motorway driving - although it definitely prefers to cruise. it's a very smooth and quiet performer. you must remember that everyone ELSE has only a sub-1 litre or sub 2-litre car, and anything over 2 litres is considered a luxury. so performance is relative here are the specs:

Engine: 2799cc, V6. SOHC. 1.8-valve
Max Power: 204bhp at 2700rpm
Max Torque: 270Nm at 3000rpm
Transmission: five-speed automatic rear-wheel-drive
Top Speed: 230km/h
Accel 0-100km/h: 9.5sec
Fuel Consumption: 16L/100km (Urban); 8L/100km (Extra-Urban)

as you can see fuel consumption still isn't that great, but in most of asia, by far the biggest chunk of expenditure in a car purchase is the tax, and that is based on engine displacement. hence the S280, E200, and other such tinny-engined models.

I saw an egg-shell white 2006 S350 in a showroom in Springfield, MO. The best thing was the price. Not only that, it has everything that an S600 has, if luxury is what you want (pneumatic doors/trunk, COMAND, ventilated Nappa leather, etc.). A more affordable brand-new S-Class Mercedes-Benz in the US since the late 90s...who'da thought it would come back so nice?

S320, 2000
I have a W220, S320 in long wheel base. It is fully loaded with a fridge and telephone etc. Earlier I had a W140 S320. The newer car is a lot faster in pick up and easy to manouver around town and of course more reliable so far. Touch wood!

2004 S500
I saw an ad in our local paper recently offering your choice of a new S350 or E350 at the same price (I think about $55,900) through the end of February. I have seen 1 S350 on the streets here. I had to do a double take. The biggest difference is rear seat leg room, other than that it looks like the S430/S500. For the money it's not a bad way to go.

Picture of a W220 S280. Note the crappy factory rims MB puts on the S280 over here

Also, on a S280 you can forget sat nav, disctronic, parktronic, or basically any of the extras you would normally expect with a W220!

I find it hard to picture the W220 center console without a navigation system.

haha you better believe it. i'll get pictures if i get the chance (probably not anytime soon).

anyway, it appears that even the new W221 will have an S280 version, with the 280 engine coming from the current E280:
