Mercedes Benz S430 Calyptus Steering Wheels
Hi, looking for forum help again. I recently purchased a 2001 S430. I like the wood trim and enjoyed the look of the wood/leather steering wheel. My interior is the light tan, (java?), leather trim is light and dark, calyptus wood trim. Can anyone direct me to instructions for removal and replacing of a S class steering wheel? Any resources for purchase, PM me and forward info on wood/leather steering wheels.
Thanks in advance for your help,

I just got mine on ebay..same year car and all...Remember that your car is 6 years old and the wood has faded..also the interior of your car came from the same tree cut..when I got my wheel it is darker..it is impossible to get them to match..even the parts guy at mercedes said he order 4 for the same car and they never matched exact..I'm happy with mine..the guy on ebay seels them for $400 plus 25.00 for shipping..he gives you $59.00 back when you send him your wheel and gives a one year warranty once your old wheel is sent back..I watched my guy install it..looked easy..He charged $50 it took about 30 mins..he thought it was going to take an hour...First he dissconnected the battery so the airbag would not go off..Then on the back of the steering wheel are to holes..I'm not sure what typr of screws they are..he took them out and the loosen the center air bag..on the back of the air bag was aconnector that he pulled off...I believe he just toggled the steering whell off..but there my have been some bolts. slipped the new wheel on...plugged the air bag in..and tighten the two screws on the back of the wheel. Here is an item number from one of his auctions 8056279727 Go to ebay and under search..type in that item number...email him and he also custom makes wheels.

Wood/leather steering wheel
lorinserSclass, thanks for your response. I decided to let a professional handle. I watched him and took him 12 minutes. He did not disconnect battery, worked like a skilled surgeon. The wood/leather matched and looks great. Glad I made the mod. Thx

lorinserSclass,
I purchased the steering wheel on ebay MERCEDES JAVA EUCLYPTUS STEERING WHEEL W220 S CLASS (ID was "scarface"). After some emailing back and forth, I made the purchased. I also had the option to purchase the Ergo/Sport Wood/Leather Steering Wheel, very nice for $100 more. If I were younger, maybe I would have purchased the Sport model. Price is very reasonable, core charge for old steering wheel. I checked out 5 other sites and they were way more. After some contemplating, I decided not to install myself. After watching the skilled Technician, I can do it myself now.
