need help on 2000 S500 front lights and side LEDs update.

Hello all, does anyone know how hard it is to change the front head lamps(currently xenon) to the newer projector verson(xenon)? are they pretty much straight plug n play if i buy the oem ones? I have already updated the rear lamps and they were fairly easy. also, will the newer oem LEDs for the side mirrow gonna fit on the 2000? i heard about some people saying that mirror housings are different for 2000 and 2003 up models so they won't fit....
any input? thanks

Mirror housing in the 03 is different with the 00. You will have to purchase the whole assembly for that to fit but you can get just the LED's from vertex racing and those just replace the LEDs and not the housing. Ebay $40.

The projector headlights will depend on the ones you get. If you get cheap imitations you may have problems. Buy OE and you get a much better result. Make sure you buy harness too.

i finally installed the LEDs from Vertex Racing... but I've been getting the LEDs malfunction reading on the display when I use turn signals..... anyone know what i did wrong? is it the wiring or they are just not compatible with the car? if I decide to buy the OEM LEDs, do I need to buy the whole side mirror including motor etc(cost >$800) or I will be just need the outside housing plus LEDs? will the LED plugs fit to my car, or I need to splice wires? thanks

Sammy38, it's common to pinch the led wire during installation and that could give you a mulfunction warning. Remove the leds and inspect them to ensure that did not happen during your install. If you are still getting the mulfunction light then you have damaged leds. Exchange them. Don't spend $800 plus for the entire assembly. If you do it right you won't have any problems.

The mulfunction light is on because the computer thinks that the leds are not functioning since the pull such low amps. You can get a 100 ohm resistor from radioshack ($2) and install that between one of the wires that way it tricks your system that there is enough power going to the leds. Cheap way of fixing.

Kenstudios,

You need to change your name to "W220 TECH", or something

This resistor taps into each end of the connector. Get the smallest size you can find. They have some that are big. The leds have a much lower power pull than the regular lights and your system detects that there is less power and thinks that the bulb is out. The resistor bumps that power consumption to get the system to think the bulds are operating as normal.

i went out and bought the right resistor and put them in, the light worked but a few of the leds at the end did not work. i later messed up the two oringnal little prongs and use the pillers in the trunk to get them bak in, everything is working as normal now but the resistors didnt work so i left them out u bought the ones sed in the other thread 100 ohm from radio shack just $1.07

You do not need a resistor for this mod period. Your problem is with a bad connection or a bad led strip.
