Powerchip, is it worth it?

Greetings fellow MB fanatics....I am currently considering upgrading the performance of my W220 S600 with a Powerchip installation.....need some feedback from those of you who have some experience with this particular product...is it worth it? Can you really tell the difference? For $1,100, are you getting what they advertise...? Thanks in advance.

Their web site states that it will increase from 362hp to 396hp...but more importantly, it will raise the torque from 391lb-ft to 430lb-ft....it is the torque that I am so very impressed with....but you know how the products are advertised...I want to hear from members here that actually had this upgrade and what they thought. The price is very prohibitive....anyone?

The AMG chip set that I have for my 2004 S600 was around $3,500 and boosted the HP from 506 to 604. It also boosted the torque from 604 to 718. Is that worth the money? You better believe it.

AMG chip? I don't know of any AMG chips. Are you refering to RennTech? Some dealers carry and install their products. RennTech chips, while pricey, are extremely effective in '03+ S600s.

AGE55 is refering to Powerchip. They're about $1000 for the S430 and S500 and they claim gains of up to 20+ hp, but I'm somewhat doubting it.

ditto...

thanks....and just so that everyone is clear...I am interested in hearing from members that have the naturally aspirated engines....not talking about forced induction here....if that was the case, do you think I would even bother with 20 hp increase? I appreciate everyone's input but really needing the see what this really does for your car....so, chime in people...let's hear it. Was it worth it or not?

thanks in advance.

I believe it is for the S500 and S600 only.

I first thought the chip set was RT but found out that my model has the full AMG package less the engine. Brakes, wheels, tires, rotors, chip set, and suspension.

AG, that is funny. You first asked about information pertaining to a 2003 S600 , but you then state that you want to here from people who have cars not like your own. Go figure.

Cool. Was this a factory option (the performance upgrade package) or was it installed aftermarket? I have never heard of an "AMG package" for an 03 S600. I am not doubting you, I just want to know the specifics, as I am seriously considering a used 03 or 04 S600, and would definitely want that package if it was offered.

All were factory options, thus, the cars MSRP was around $141,000. I believe the option was 04 and 05 only. 2003 models first used RT.

Read it again....

Dude, you need to read the post again...tell me where it states that I owned or wanted to hear from owners of 2003+ S600? It states W220 S600....granted that I should have specified specific year, but I never said 2003+ S600. Needless to say, thank you for your feedback on your 2004 S600, but I am looking for some feedback on pre-2003 S600.....anyone?

True, the 220 includes non-turbo cars. Seems like you are both wrong and both right. AG should've specified that he really wanted to hear from N/A car owners (pre-2003) and responder shouldn't assume that all 220s are twin turbo. Innocent confusion, IMO.

Powerchip group buy!

I can tell you first hand that it makes a BIG difference to have your car tuned. My friends with B and P cars have them installed on their cars (PC is located in LA).

The first thing you notice is the throttle response from the changed mapping which makes the car take off and part throttle accelerate so much more effortlessly than stock. I have driven a few cars before and after.

evosport tests everything and they only use the best suppliers

There is a group buy on another forum for M3's at the moment - I think we need to get one on this board? Esp if I get my new car soon

Powerchip's are great. Get them from evosport (www.evosport.com)
The biggest difference you'll see isn't from the hp or torque gains, but the change in of area under the curve (on a dyno graph). That's the kick in the pants

However, on a NA engine (ie: non FI (duh)) you'll probably be better off saving your money and doing other modifications that'll cost less and possibly do more of a difference. To be totally blunt, save your money period and save up for a supercharger

W220 after 2003 got the change. S55 became supercharged and the S600 became turbo charged. Adding a chip to a TT engine can make a night and day difference because it's quite easy to just ramp up boost. On a supercharger system it's easy to add a pulley+chip to make incredible power.

For the S600 and S55 right now (the FI ones) I'd suggest contacting Euroteck (www.euroteckmotorsports.com) and getting the RENNtech Stage 1 (or Stage 2 if you want) packages for your car. The chip alone on the 600 is worth it.
