Check Engine Light!!!

Hi, Since yesterday, I got this light on in my S430. I know , it could be several reasons for that. I have OBDII code diagnostic device called "autotap", which is made to be used on American and Japanise cars. I fixed check engine light issues using that in my other cars. But the question is'"Can I use that to fix that problem in Mercedes?" If anybody has any knowledge, please help. Thanks.

Clearing the fault codes from the computer does not actually resolve the issue...

Thanks Oxygen,
I know that. What I am trying to find out:
Can I use that? and if not, what other options are there for me, to find out what causes the "engine light on". If I know the codes, I could try to resolve it myself, if it is some thing DYI.

Get the reader for the S class on ebay, works great, and comes with the codes. Works for the E class too.

Last time my check engine light on my S500 came on, I went to Autozone and they tested it for free, as well as tell you the codes they found.
