Hey all, just bought a 2000 s430. Originally when I took the car out for a test drive the navigation system worked fine, but since then the dealer replaced the battery and since then I haven't been able to get the NAV to work, it keeps saying "activating navigation" Can anyone help me out with this problem? Also nother thing, the dealer replaced the brake pads, since then the car has a slight wobble at speeds between 100km-120km. I'm thinking this may be due to tires need balancing. Now when I brake just before the vehicle comes to a stop it makes a humming noise coming from the brakes. The dealer said its normal but it sure doesn't sound like it. The dealer isn't a mercedes dealer. If you can help diagnose these problems please reply
Thanks

Since the W220 are smooth running cars any unbalance in the tires will be noticed. So if the tires are still good have them rebalanced. I need to do this almost every 7.500 miles. I'm not a racer, and I don't use cheap tires either (Conti) but the balance, for what ever reason, keeps changing.
If the guy put on the right pads there can be no humming noise, unless he did not fasten the brake saddle bolts or wheels bolts properly (this make humming noises), or he did forget to the relocate the springs for the pads properly. Question rear or front brakes?? If the disks are worn you may also feel vibs, while you apply the brakes, but no noise.

Try ejecting the nav disk and putting it back in. It may take several times. On mine sometimes it does not recognize the disk and I have to do it 2 or 3 times.

Congrat's on buying an excellent car!
The NAV may need to be reset/re-calibrated by an MB dealer. If the guys didn't know what they were doing when replacing the battery there may be several electronic systems (NAV, seats, etc.) that need to be reset using the MB computer at your dealer. There are also ways to reset these things yourself, but I cannot recall all the methods. I think they are discussed in the Operator's Manual, if you have them.
As for the front end noise I just last week noticed something like that on my car, and have no idea what is causing it. Could be brakes, but I think the car will warn me if brakes need replacing and I've seen nothing on the dash indicating a brake replacement malfunction. It could also be the power steering system, but really do not know. The noise goes away after a few minutes and sometimes never is heard so I am at a loss.
The car needs an A Service in about 1k miles so I will have these items checked then, but am interested in your ideas until then.

I would read the https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...tart-here.html
It has some extensive coverage on the Nav system and other issues you may experience. It also has the procedure required once the battery has been removed.

The dealer is required to perform all the resetting procedures if they removed the battery. It looks like they haven't performed all the steps, take it back and ask for a reset. It should be free.
Next time if you need to replace the battery, keep the computers powered while you replace the battery, these cars don't like low battery voltage or no voltage. It screws with the computers.

Jason, you really don't have to keep voltage going to the car. The computers will reset if the procedures are followed properly. There are times when you will be working on the car where you will not want any power of any kind being active.
There are procedures that you have to follow. I have removed my battery many times and after resyncing/resetting everything I have never experienced any problems.
Roll each window down individually and hold it there until you hear a slight click. Then roll each one up until you hear the same click.
Tilt sunroof up until the click. Slide sunroof back until click. It may slide back in small increments but just keep pushing the button until it is in the position you desire.
Turn steering wheel lock to lock both left and right.
With key in car, turn switch to position 2 just before starting. Mash gas pedal alll the way down and hold it there for about 10 seconds. With foot still on gas pedal turn car off. Now start car normally.
If Nav doesn't come on eject CD/DVD and reload, may take a couple of times. If CD player doesn't work, remove CD container and reload.
