W220 S-CLASS OWNERS START HERE

Folks have often requested a general starting point for questions and research on the W220 S-Class, something akin to the Encyclopaedia Germanica vol. 107 on the BenzWorld R/C 107 forum. Well, here it is. I don’t have all the answers, or even all the good sites; but I do have over 1500 links bookmarked that help me respond to questions on three different forums. Here are the best of them. Feel free to add more.

Please read this over before posting new questions. We’ll ask. If it’s already covered, we’ll just refer you back to this. If it doesn’t quite answer your questions, you’ll have a bunch of good search terms for the forum’s search tool, and you won’t have to wait as long for an answer.

There is a downloadable WORD version of this post with hyperlinks at http://mbca.cartama.net/showthread.php?t=33904

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

Extended Warranty vs Recall - The instrument cluster on the W220 and W215 were subject to a recall, by VIN, for lighting-specific problems. The recall was superseded by a 10-year extended warranty from initial date of service on ALL U.S. W220s and W215s. The extended warranty applies to all defects and is NOT limited by VIN. Jayhawk posted the extended warranty letter at 58 https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...removal-3.html

MORE ON ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and AIRMATIC

I must add to the Electrical System the following:

Dashboard switches don’t work - http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...usly-dead.html BUT ALSO SEE https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ins-clean.html and http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...ll-rain-2.html - get your car scanned with STAR to get the diagnosis if you don’t see water.

And to the Airmatic section, for a good look at the workings of an Airmatic strut see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...assembled.html

If the link for the Hella relay, under Airmatic, will not work, try the following:

More manuals, wiring digrams

You can join the Mercedes Star TekInfo system for 1 day and download the wiring diagrams and other information that you might find necessary. See Mercedes-Benz - Home of C, E, S, CLK, CLS, CL, SLK, SL, SLR, R, GLK, M, GL, G Class and click on "Technical Information." It goes back to 1994.

You may also be able to get wiring diagrams at Classic Technical Literature

I have a 2001 mb s500 the engine turns over but wont start. I checked fuses and found I have no power to the rear fuse box. the two fuse boxes under the hood have power. I checked the rear fuse box and i dont have any power.

Q where does the hot wire leading from the rear fuse box under the rear passenger seat connect to? the hot wire goes under the front passenger seat. Im hoping once I find that connection i can solve the problem of no power.

This thread is intended as a reference guide, not a discussion thread. Please post questions in a new thread. If you find a source that is particularly helpful, please feel free to add it in this thread.

However, your question concerns a little-known fuse box to which the hot wire you asked about leads. See https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...20-2002-a.html - there are several "hidden" boxes.

The "fuse box" in your question is much more; it is the rear Signal Acquisition Module (SAM) - a kind of router - and while it has fuses on it, it is much more complex than it may appear.

Since your car turns over but does not start, look to other causes - a common one is the crankshaft position sensor (links above).

00 S500
Hello fellow W220 owners, i dont own a S-class as yet however i will most likely be buying my aunt W200 S500 from her, i am a complete noob when it comes to benz, not new to the car world however... my apologies, My Name is Denver know as Grand_hustle17 on maxima.org and most places, anyways my plans for this S500 is to go somewhat VIP, im looking into doing the vossen vv083 20x8.5 and 20x10.5, however my major concern is, there seems to be a problem with getting an aftermarket air suspension for these cars, i was looking to go universal air suspension and change a couple things out, is there anything that i need to know with messing with the stock suspension and getting by "car too low error"???... i am no newb to the search link but i couldnt find anything that helped my concern
