MY 2002 S430 SOUNDS LIKE A 64 IMPALA WITH HYDRAULICS. AT FIRST THERE WAS A SLIGHT KNOOCKING NOISE ON THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING WOBBLING OVER EVERY LITTLE BUMP. NOW WHEN I TURN OFF THE CAR THERE IS THIS LOUD RUSH OF AIR ,,LIKE LETTING THE AIR OUT OF A TIRE I DON'T NOTICE THE CAR GETTING LOWER OR DROPPING THE HEIGHT BUT DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON WHAT IS GOING ON ?? HELP

The knocking noise I would say from lower control arm or ball joint common problem. About the air noise can you tell where the noise coming from and for how long ?

The most common problem of the shock is a leak at the top. open the hood and check for a hairline crack on top of the strut. If your strut is in good shape then get the repair kit for 65 dollars. THe labor on the kit is 5 hours though.

Had the same problem...the shock is shot...I heard my noise everytime I was at low speeds and would hit any bump or pull out of a parking lot and the road was a different height..the air noise is probably that the shock absorber diaphragm has seperated...both the noise and the air noise should be fine one you buy a new shock absorber...Mercedes wants $1070 but I got my from a ebay store for $635 shipped...simple to install..need help PM me

when removing the lower two 5mm hex screws on the lower part of the shock, hammer the 5mm bit in a couple of times. That screw is threadlocked in place and due to it's small size, it strips out and you will not be able to remove it then.
