I was lookin at them lately with the v12 bi-turbo. They look nice, kinda outdated compared to the W221 though. What kind of gas mileage do they get and how fast are they really?? Are they at all reliable or break down easily with alot of maintanence cost?

Mine has 42k miles and nothing but routine service. Still drives and feels new.

Fast? Yep. 0-60 in 4.3 secs.

A friend of mine took his Kleeman modified '03 CLK-55 to the track and was spanked by a stock (also stock tires) '04 S600. The S did the 1/4 mile in 12.1 seconds. Not too shabby.

MPG? Who cares! I get about 15 mixed. 20-21 on the intersate, 13 all city.

12.1 STOCK!! Pretty darn goood, any difference between an 03-06. MPG cause its gonna be a DD and of course ur ride is fine so far...you just bought it LOL!

I just bought it, but it had one previous owner and I have all the records and books of what was done to it. Plus a PPI, so it's been a good car at 42k miles.

Mine's a DD as well, however when you're buying a car that can between $40-55Gs, who cares about MPG!

I just bought my 2003 S600 from a local guy......only 12,000 miles and serviced by my local dealer. Fast........stupid fast. I owned a big turbo mitsubishi evolution 8 that would run low 11's, and this car IS very fast by anyones standards.

I'm not trying to be rude, but you might be better of with the Corvette or something along those lines. Ferrari 308's can be had for $30K, not the fatest, but a blast to drive and cheap to maintain in the realm of Ferraris.

I get admiring looks from time to time, usually from other drivers in Mercs. Usually I never notice...

My main reason for purchasing the car was outrageous performance with four doors. Forget the new BMW M5. Too troublesome, no faster and looks f-ugly.

Even played with the idea of rebadging it as an S430 or S320 I also bought it for the superb engineering, long S class history (I also owned a W126 560SEL), and of course the safety.

When I said showy I meant compared to the E500. In other words which would be better, 04 E500 or 03 S600?? Speed wise its obvious, but how else do they compare? You have had an E before I guess. Enlighten me !

Apples and oranges. E500 is blah. For that kind of money, I'd buy two pristine W124 500E's. A black one for me and silver for the wife.

I loved my 03 S600, it was a wonderful car in every respect.
And with only a renntech chip, and good tires, it ran an 11.5 at 120MPH in the quarter mile! Amazing for a 4800 lb car.
If you buy one, you will not be disappointed.
