instrument cluster recall for S & CL CLASS

i spoke to mb usa today and they broadend the recall of the clusters, call them guys, i got the recall letter today and am finally getting my new cluster. at first they said my vin wasnt part of the recall, but filed a complaint with nhtsa and many, many more vins are on the recall list now..any questions or need assistance, i'll be more than happy to help.

my instrument cluster just went out!!no lights at all,completely blacked out,any suggestions as to the cause of this would be greatly appreciated.my car is s500 2001.Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you have the problem that all these threads are talking about: a faulty cluster design. You should get a new one via the recall. Call your dealer.

if your cluster is completely dead, check your 5amp fuse under the hood on the drivers side. if the fuse is good, or if when you replace it it pops or still doesnt work, whoover is right. call the dealer and give them your vin # and see if your on the recall list yet. actually, you should call them anyway and get a new one as its just a matter of time before it goes out anyway.

thanks for the replies!!l just checked the fuse and it is blown,l replaced it and half the cluster came on again before the fuse blew again,l guess this is the faulty problem people have been talking about!!What years are being recalled??

2001 S430
I finally got my recall letter today. I own a 2001 S430. The cluster went out in November 2004 (two weeks out of waranty) and cost $1600 to replace.

Now it looks like that cost will finally be refunded.
