Hi guys,

Looking for help on installing (replacing) the fuel injectors (1 per cylinder) on my own. Don't want to repeat myself but It's a 500 miles trip to an authorized dealership that I beleive is not worth a "Do It Yourself" job. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Remove/Install

DANGER:


Risk of explosion from fuel igniting, risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin from contact with fuel.
No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.
Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.
1 Remove cover on front side of engine
2 Remove cylinder head cover trim panel or air cleaner
NOTE: Remove cylinder head cover trim or air filter by lifting upwards from the cylinder head covers.
3 Take off resonance housing (2/1)

On vehicles with air cleaner mounted on vehicle side.
4.1 Remove plastic cover

Remove screw (1/4).
4.2 Loosen the engine wiring harness from the fuel distributor
5 Release fuel pressure through service valve (1/1)
NOTE: Collect fuel.

Pressure hose: See Special Tools below.
6 Detach feed line (17/2)

NOTE: Collect fuel.



- Fuel feed line to fuel distributor, Engine 112/113 = 38 Nm
Engine 112.960/961 AMG = 35 Nm
7 Separate electrical connectors of fuel injectors (Y62)
8.1 Remove top charge air distributor

On supercharged engines.
9.1 Dismount bolts (17/1) and lift fuel distributor (17) together with fuel injectors (Y62) from compressor

NOTE: Before installing fuel distributor (17), oil O-rings and check for damage.



Bolt of fuel rail to bottom part of charge air distributor (Except Engine 112) = 9 Nm
9.2 Dismount bolts (17/1) and lift fuel distributor (17) together with fuel injectors (Y62) from intake manifold

NOTE: Before installing fuel distributor (17), oil O-rings and check for damage.



- Bolt of fuel rail to intake manifold, Engine 112 = 9 Nm
Engine 113.990/991 = 10 Nm

Inspect


10 Check fuel injection valves (Y62) with STAR DIAGNOSIS
11 Install in the reverse order

 

Erm, good luck, that does not look like fun.

Why are you changing them?

 

Because I have an ignition misfire. Better say it's delayed. Like it's trying to start the engine for 3-4 seconds.

Thanks for the info. I see I'm going to need the Star Diagnostic tool which I don't have.

It ain't fun, it's a pain in the *** I can tell you already.
