Also do some of your own research with Daniel Stern.. He explains it well. He also sells high qulaity bulbs cheap.

2001 S500 with self leveling HID's
Hi all, I am reading the thread but still confused. I definately want to upgrade to a clear 2003 look lights. My question to you all is if I go & purchase a projector light from ebay will it be a simple plug & play & can I install it or it will not work? I did look at the lights in ebay & it all say not compatible if you have HId's.
Thanks

The Outer Plastic OEM Lens DOES YELLOW.
At least here in Miami, the OEM lens does yellow. I have been told by a business who polished the ones on my Mitsubishi 3000GT and my S500 that it is caused by salt in the air along with the UV. They used a two or three step process and cleared them right up. For about a month or so that is. They turned yellow again.
I believe someone above said that they have seen just the clear lenses for the 99-02 w220 on E-BAy. I have never seen it, but would be very pleased to find clear plastic lenses that fit. I have the XENON and I want to update the look because the non-clear lens (all those little lines in various directions built into the OEM lenses) makes the car look bad in my opinion.
If I could find a clear plastic lens, I believe it would cover the yellowing and the update at the same time.

in response to the yellowing issue, all lights will eventually get that yellowish hazy look, aftermarket or oem has nothing to do with it. If you want to avoid this issue you could simply apply a headlight protective film which can be found at stickercity.com or just about anywhere else you may search. They sell them in clear, smoke, blue, yellow, etc. about 50$ Or if that doesn't float your boat you could always use this process which for some reason seems to be shrouded in secrecy: To get rid of that hazy yellowing on your headlights all you need to do is get some polishing agent, get some sand paper of varying grits, and get some rubbing alcohol. Use the alcohol to first clean the lights, once lights are cleaned, start wet sanding the lights make sure to keep them nice and wet(and do not sand in a circular motion) work your way up to the finer grit paper, I spend about 15min per light total. Once done sanding apply several applications of the polish to the lights and buff until perfection. It is really that simple. Ive done it numerous times on numerous cars. works every time.

I really like the depo headlights. They are equal in quality to my '02 oem headlights imo. If you want to keep your xenons, you'll have to do some custom upgrades. Actually, you can buy an aftermarket xenon kit and install it- it would be easier.
I'd make sure your stock setup is all squared away first though.

Anyone have a more recent experience with aftermarket headlights? I don't like the look of mine on the 2001 S55.
