ebay retrofit headlights question

Hello:

I have previously held off retrofitting updated clear projector headlight due to the cost. Recently searching ebay on W220 again, I see headlight update is now at about $350 a pair compare to $900 before.

Has anyone purchase a pair at this price recently? I understand they are not OEM but are they good quality parts? are they Plastic or Glass?

I will be looking at Non-HID updated lights if I get them..

Thanks for any information or advice..

its gonna be plastic cuz welll glass shatters easily and when your driving on the highway plastic doesnt shatter nearly as easily as glass does. the price will flacuate depending on what kind you buy hids run into 1,000$ and since you want halogens there cheaper but just make sure you buy the correct one. and the answe to your question about why are w220 products cheaper now its because of the new w221, our cars accessory prices have dropped. o well but we still love our mercedes s500 .. lol

The quality will be fine especially non hid.. go ahead and do it and I guarantee you will very pleased with the look and performance..buy these. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-06...52604653QQrdZ1

I think the low beam on the hid is an H3 or an H7, the high beam will be an H7. I would recommend replacing the stock bulbs with Sylvania (us) Silvertars for the best bright 4000K "white" light or the Phillips vision plus 50%, GE Nighthawk or the Osram (germany) Silvertar if you want the max "brightest" light output but will be a tad yellowish in color.

I didnt realize my stock headlight is plastic.. I just knocked on it.. bloc bloc bloc.. Yup. plastic.. OK then. a set of Updated headlight for $325+shipping would be a fair price. It is soon time to pull the trigger.

There is funny looking black lights too.. Seems only black or dark colored w220 would look ok in them.

Just like Fkong's custom made brakets. Nothing special. Putting it in might be easy, but when you return it to the stock- it might be a different story, since you will have less clearance to put your hand in.

you can always use a Jack.

Just going off topic

https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w220/91797-using-washers-drop-car.html

There was a couple of kits on the market already TWS and some shop in Los Angeles RBTECH. They charge about $200. I looked at it. HELL NO. I'm not paying $200 for some L-brackets, nut bolts and rubber bushings. That when I made my own washer and stud replace mod. Funny thing is that I was toying with the idea of making treaded rods and ball spocket ends adjustable rod too. There are parts available at mcmaster.com. I didnt go forward because the washer mod worked well enough and I wasnt going to market the adjustable rod..

Just installed

I have 01 S430 with XENONS & self leveling... I learned the hard way that some companies offer Xenons and Bi- Xenons that are supposed to fit 00-05... Not true... Because of wiring harness they will not work on 00 and 01.. I did purchase the $ 300.00 +projectors and they were truly plug and play... ( Try Option RAcing ). They do not have the leveling motors. The only thing I noticed was the lens is not quite the same profile as the originals and so towards the hood they are a little more recessed than originals... Not that big of a deal for me, but you do see a more pronounced gap between light and hood.... I'll try to take pic and put on site this week , if you want to check back

You can buy plug n play projectors with philips ballast and bulbs, self leveling etc. for 800-1500 bucks.. all the 3 to 400 dollar lamps on ebay are non xenon which is cool for the price. But if your S has xenon's you have to buy the xenon upgrade or you will be stuck with a better look but a serious down grade in lighting.
I bought these a year ago or so and they are awesome. plug n play and installed by myself.

Unhappy

I would never buy any aftermarket "cheap" lights at all. Beside the technical problems you might run into, there is another issue: Discoloring of the "plastic". First of all the original is Polycarbonate which does not discolor over time from UV-light. I have once bought cheap mirror markers and after only one year they start to become yellowish already. This is a typical difference between original parts and so called OEM-part (from China oder Taiwan)

I'm still confused. I have a 2000 S500 with OEM self-leveling Xenons. I hate the color of them (my eyes are tricky), and would love to switch to normal, non-Xenon lights (however, with the 2003+ look to them). So the question is, can I run normal (non-Xenon projector/chrome/2003+ look) headlights, but get rid of the Xenon, or is that a no-no?

Thanks
Aleks

Anyone else have the discolor over time issue. Is this BS or is it really an issue?

Aleksandar, Bigtime no-no ! All you need to do is change the hid low beam bulbs. Is the color of the light too blue or yellow ? You can buy whatever kelvin temp you like. If they are too blue than buy these.

B.O.D. thanks for the info on the bulbs, that I was aware of already, however, its the actual lens that I'm concerned (mine, of course are the retarded yellowish/muggy/foggy kind, and I'd like to switch the lens out, hence my question about "downgrading" to non-Xenon 2003+ lamps, or am I stuck paying 1300 bucks for the set with the built-in Xenons?)?

Ahhh I see, Well the only logical thing to do is to keep what you have or upgrade to proper hid projectors. I assure you that the halogen projectors will be a major let down due to the low volume output. You are already spoiled my friend with your D2R reflector setup which I once had myself..I would only run a reflector halogen setup because projector halogen setups cannot produce the high volume light output.. I have a suburban and made this mistake and purchased some aftermarket projectors but they were so dim that I put the the stock reflectors lamps back on it with silverstars and it is ok but it is not even close to my S-Class hid projectors.. save your cash and get the HID'S.. you will be happy you did.

That only applies to a non-xexon equipped S. Aleksandar has it alot better than he thinks. It would be insane to go from xenon to non-xenon..

Aleksandar, How about just changing your yellowed lenses for now ? less than 150.00 bucks

benznodubz, I didnt see the H7 65 watt osram hyper bulbs on the site that you provided. Do you know what color (4,000) these would be?
