ABC = Active Body Control which is like Airmatic, but on steroids. It's much better in terms of handling and response.
The R230's come with ABC (except the SL350 I think) and the newer CL's also come with ABC if I remember right.

Aha. Sweet (I love finding cool stuff out like this). Advantages/disadvantages of ABC? Problems vs airmatic?

All I know is, ABC is a more advanced system than the standard Airmatic. If something goes out, and you're out of warranty, then its probably time to empty out the wallet.

Other than that, I wonder if you can lower ABC cars through washer/modifying links method.

Well, the next obvious question is this. Has anyone lowered an ABC-equipped S500 and if so how?

Yes.. They both use the same type links. The difference is in the programming not the physical set-up.

hi,
just wanted to chime in. isnt the ABC system a hydraulic system...meaning no airpump or lines to the struts?

If you search on the forums too, you will read that ABC is far more reliable than Airmatic, but if it does fail then it will probably cost more to fix than the airmatic system.

Interesting. It was my understanding that ABC is a hydraulic setup and AIRMATIC a bellow/spring air based system. Hmmmmmmm.

Either way, they both use LINKS for the height setting.THis has nothing to do with weather they are air or hydraulic.
Any vehicle with air shock, or ABC Which means active body control by the way, hence the comment about the difference in programming, has to have a physical reference for the height of the car. This is done my connecting links to transducers that send a reference signal to the computer for height setting.

So again yes they both have LINKS. on most cars the two front links are fixed, and the rear link is adjustable.
